One person’s trash is another one’s treasure.
However, in terms of the many bags that were left along the city’s roads following Sunday’s city-wide Spring Clean Up, the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society is asking for residents to leave them be.
“People have to be patient and realize that the city staff do have other jobs to do, and they were busy out on Sunday all day picking up bags from around the city,” said Terri McClymont, REAPS’ Executive Director. “We also have a crew that’s driving around this week picking up those last few bags.”
McClymont adds that everything should be picked up by the end of the week.
“If there are one or a few bags that haven’t been picked up, by all means, give us a call and we’ll get one of our city crews to pick it up.”
The Spring Clean Up that took place over the weekend saw almost 200 kilometres-worth of city streets picked up. With that, 3,000 residents registered themselves for the day’s worth of cleaning, all helping in cleaning Prince George’s boulevards, parks, roadways, highways, as well as trails.
McClymont says numbers from the event regarding the overall trash that was collected will likely be made available later in the week. The sooner the city staff will be able to pick up bags, the sooner that data will be made available.
