The City of Prince George is emphasizing the need to prepare the city for an evacuation in this year’s Emergency Preparedness Plan.
The plan was presented at Monday nights council meeting as the city prepares for the upcoming wildfire season.
Adam Davey Manager of Emergency Program says the big difference is the focus on how to prepare the city for an evacuation instead of what to do with people who have been evacuated from other areas.
“Have that 72 hours of supplies for your household, stay vigilant and still enjoy the summer. Although we have had (two wildfires) summers in a row it certainly does not mean we will have a third one.”
He says the plan is not just for wildfires but for all scenarios that would cause an evacuation.
Key things to keep in mind are:
> Know what zone you live in
> Know where the reception centre is (CN Centre)
> Know the nearest community evacuation assembly point us which is a school
> Check out the cites website for energy plan information
The Evacuation Response plan will be finalized in June but is currently in effect.
