Council shoots down Pickleball project

It was just too much for council to give.

Dan Teichroeb and Tyler Foxcroft, from the Prince George Tennis/Pickleball club presented to City Council at their meeting this evening asking for some financial help with finishing work on a pickeball court.

They said the pickleball community is the fastest growing sport community in the world, and were looking to upgrade the current tennis court layout at the Tennis Club to comply with the USA Pickleball regulated court dimensions and layout.

They were asking council for $45, 000.00, but when Councillor Teri McConnachie took a look at the budget, they found they only had $50, 000.00 left in the council contingency coffers.

“It would use up most of what we have left,” she said.

Councillor Cori Ramsey said “It’s a no now, but that doesn’t mean it will always be a no,” echoed by Councillor Garth Frizzell who said the pair hadn’t gotten a hard no in their attempts.

“I am sure we will have a growing, thriving pickleball community in Prince George,” he said.

Brian Skakun sent a referral motion to administration, which Teichroeb said he was hopeful about.
