A local worker is going to have a tough time explaining this one to their boss.
North District RCMP clocked the driver at 50 kilometers over the 100 k limit in a company Ford F-350 on Highway 16 near Isle Pierre Road.
Not only did the driver get ticketed for speeding, and not having their “N” displayed, but WorkSafeBC is also being brought in to hold the company accountable.
“Worksafe has jurisdiction on any employee that’s covered, other than self-employed personnel and this falls under their mandate, regarding safe work sites and working around other people,” he says.
Steinhauser says it’s the first time he’s seen them be brought into a local dangerous driving offence.
“This is throughout the province with Worksafe, in regards to ensuring that our roads are maintained to the highest standard available for the safety of all who use it,” he says.
Given the numerous crashes and fender-benders since the recent snowfall, Steinhauser says many drivers still refuse to drive to the snowy and icy conditions.
“Drivers have to realize that even though it might be warm out, the road is still cold,” he says. “There’s a fine layer of black ice on the roads, sometimes for the full day,” he says. “As such, people have to realize that they have to slow down, give themselves a bit more time and get there safely because, you know what? Someone does love them.”
