Prince George resident to receive Medal of Bravery

Chelsi Sabbe, a resident of Prince George, will be honoured for a harrowing experience.

As part of a ceremony taking place on Tuesday, March 26 in Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, Sabbe will receive the Medal of Bravery from the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Canada’s Governor General.

The event of which she’s being recognized for took place on August 15, 2017, when Sabbe intervened during an attempted kidnapping in Prince George.

A daycare owner, Sabbe took a group of children she was caring for to a park. It was there that a man attempted to abduct one of the children, whereupon Sabbe tackled the man to the ground.

Grabbing the child, she ran back to the park, ordering the other children to climb to the top of the play structure.

The man returned and was immediately confronted by Sabbe. The suspect later fled but was later apprehended by the police.

Sabbe will be one of 19 recipients fo the award at the ceremony.
