Foreman Road neighbours oppose rezoning development at City Council

The public hearing at Prince George City Council meeting Monday night was a packed house.

A rezoning proposal for 778 Foreman Road was the hot topic, with many residents from the area coming out to voice their opposition to council.

“We don’t want to upset anyone in the neighbourhood. We didn’t rezone the property, it was already zoned for a gas station,” said Bruce Kidd, owner of the property and President of Kidd Real Estate Holdings Ltd.

The site is already zoned for a gas station and car wash, however, residents in the area think the development will have negative effects.

The whole point of the rezoning, according to Kidd, is to make the entrances bigger and therefore safer.

An excerpt from one of the letters in opposition to the proposal:

“Many Foreman Road residents chose this neighbourhood for it’s quiet, rural quality. With the proposed development, residents will be forced to tolerate increased vehicular traffic, noise and duplication of services. Due to the increased value of the developed property, every home in the area would have an increase in taxes. This cost would come without added benefit or improved services. Indeed, there will be additional stress placed on the local infrastructure, specifically water and sewer. Depending on the type of vehicles and location of the entrances to the development, either on Highway 16 or Foreman Road, the intersection of Highway 16 with Foreman and Graves Road may become more dangerous. If vehicles are expected to enter and exit on Foreman road, there is a curve in the road at this location, which makes for treacherous driving in the winter.”

In the end, council approved the decision.
