Prince George has a new resource for apprentices and employers as the Industry Training Authority hired a new apprenticeship advisor.
The government was wanting to add the advisor to support, track and coordinate apprentices and help them find employers, as the need for a regional member was clearly evident in order to develop apprentice skills throughout the B.C apprenticeship system.
MLA Shirley Bond had this to say when asked about the importance of such advisors:
“..and so having a person on the ground in regions all across the province we believe is essential to that, so we expect there to be 1 million job openings in BC by 2022 and apprenticeships will play a major role in young people in particular deciding on a career path as we move forward”
Prince Georges new advisor is Donna Anderson, who will work to interest young people in apprenticeships and support their goals by becoming a liaison between them and the employers.
Bond says this is vital for young apprentices, as they need excellent advice from their local region and immediate support for finding employers and training partners.
