To plug or not to plug? BC Hydro weighs in.

With the winter weather sort-of upon us, BC Hydro offers some advice on the age-old debate of plugging in your vehicle.

While it’s not quite cold enough to bust out your block heater and extension cord at night, once you do, Bob Gammer Manager of Northern Community Relations points out that you don’t need to leave it there all night.

“It’s best to do it just for an hour before you need to fire up your vehicle,” he says. “I know sometimes it’s just convenient to plug it in the night before and leave it overnight, that’s fine, it doesn’t hurt the vehicle, it just means you’re using extra electricity that you don’t have to.”

Some other tips from Gammer to keep your bills low; use a programmable thermostat, washing clothes in cold water, and throwing a dry towel into your dry cycle to get the load done faster.
