College Heights residents raise concerns over recent crimes

The College Heights and Area Facebook page has seen a number of complaints over the last few days regarding crimes.

Some locals have recommended things like baby monitors and cameras to catch potential thieves in the act, while others are hoping for a stronger police presence.

The main thing Corporal Craig Douglass is asking from residents is to report any crimes directly to police, no matter how small.

“We put resources where resources are needed so certainly if there are spikes identified then we do focus on those areas. We do need the public to report more incidents, we know that more crime is happening that isn’t even being reported,” he explained.

“People say why bother calling the police but those things go to the stats that go to helping us put more resources in the area and there is a fairly significant percentage of property crime that we estimate is not even being reported. That makes it difficult for us to target crimes that we don’t know are happening.”

RCMP Superintendent Warren Brown is expected to present 2018 crime stats for Prince George to City Council in the near future.
