PG choir to represent Canada at international event

Prince George’s Nove Voce Women’s Choir will compete in the 2019 European Choir Games Grand Prix of Nations in Gothenberg, Sweden. The competition runs from August 3rd to 10th, 2019.

The group qualified after placing second at the Canadian National Music Festival. Founder and Musical Director Robin Norman said it’s been a long journey to get where they are.

“When we first formed the choir back in 2005, the first year we competed we got runner-up at the provincial festival for BC. In 2016 we won best overall choir in BC and last year we won BC again and got to go to nationals.”

The choir, which consists of 20 women who are all currently living in Prince George, does face one challenge. They are looking to raise $20,000 by the end of the year to fund the trip. To help with that, the group has some incentives for Giving Tuesday on November 27th.

“One of the fun ones is, if you give $100, we will video a carol for you and we’ll send that to you. Helping out with things, we’ve got a Nove Voce calendar and those are the men of the choir. They don’t sing in the choir but they are husbands and spouses and are posing in various locations around Prince George.

Another perk for that day is tickets to Nove Voce’s concert in May. The choir has a donor willing to match all contributions on Giving Tuesday, up to $5,000.
