A church donated to Youth for Christ in Mackenzie now has funding for renovations.
For the Aviva Community Fund, residents voted the organization for one of three winners in the “Big Ideas” category. This gave the Mackenzie YFC $100,000 for the location, which is used to host events for youth-serving organizations.
“We were given a church building this fall and so the money will be used to extensively renovate the building and transform it into a welcoming space for all youth in the community,” explained YFC Executive Direct Stephen Swan.
“We’re planning on making it multifunctional so that other youth-serving organizations can use the facility as well.”
Mackenzie was one of the smaller communities up for funding. Swan said in the time they have worked together, these improvements have become needs.
“We’ve been working in Mackenzie for a few years now and a lack of space that youth really feel like is theirs is an issue that kept coming up,” he said.
“We know that for other youth-serving organizations, space is hard to come by and is expensive so we are really looking forward to meeting those community needs.”
YFC has already started getting quotes for renovations. The project will be complete by the end of 2019.
