Skakun back in for another term, Sampson makes the cut

A longtime Prince George City Councillor is back in City Hall for another four years.

Brian Skakun led all candidates in votes with just under 95-hundred.

My Prince George Now caught up with him after the election wrapped and feels positive about the new council.

“We have what looks like an incredible team with Cori and Kyle joining us led by Mayor Lyn Hall, I think it is absolutely great news for Prince George and I just want to thank all the people who have supported me over all the years and this is probably one of the elections I felt best in.”

Skakun is a veteran member of council who put in the work to earn another four years.

“I did a lot of work on social media, I connected with a lot of people and that really helped, people, saw I had a good reputation of working hard over the past 16 years and I think that helped served me.”

Kyle Sampson finished second in the voting with over 8,400 votes, who also believes the version of the council is a great mix of old and new.

“It’s phenomenal.”

“What a great way to have a mixture on this council with senior members who have been around the table who have been there for multiple terms, we have some new blood like Cori and myself and it’s a really good mix to keep Prince George moving forward because I don’t know all the answers.”

At his party from the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, he was quite shocked with how it all turned out.

“I didn’t expect it, I have been nervous for quite a while and leading up to this not knowing will I be elected, will I get a fifth, sixth, eighth but second place is incredible.”

Lyn Hall won by a landslide over Willy Ens in the mayor’s race with 11,702 votes.
