Horgan stops in PG

The leader of the BC NDP made a stop in Prince George, drumming up support for his party and to also tour the Lakeland Mills site.

John Horgan is protesting what he calls Liberal changes to the BC Society Act, claiming private interests could sue environmental and community groups who oppose their projects.

Horgan says this plan “Affects over 27,000 groups across the province. It could bankrupt small community organizations, muzzle public dissent, and force non-profits to fight against constant legal proceedings from anyone who disagrees with their work.”

Lakeland Mills plans to appeal over $700,000 in penalties laid out by WorksafeBC after the 2012 explosion that killed two workers and injured dozens of others.

After extensive rebuilding, the new mill is scheduled to restart production later this month.
