For Prince George students, summer stopped on September 5th and for School District 57 (SD57) supervisors, their three-month absence will end tonight.
SD57’s Board of Trustees are set to meet once again tonight for the first time in the 2018-19 calendar year, less than a month away from the October 20th election.
A hot topic will be the district’s finances for the previous year with a presentation from local auditors and discussions to approve the budget surplus.
The surplus is listed in the report at an estimated $48.5 million and among the report includes expenses for construction, technology, equipment upgrades, teacher pay, and student transportation.
Another item on the agenda is a possible French Embassy Agreement from the Education Programs and Planning Committee.
This would mean students at College Heights and Duchess Park secondary schools would be allowed to sign up for an Authentic French Learning course as part of a collaboration with the country of France.
If SD57 agrees, they’ll become the third district in BC to sign the agreement, alongside SD60 (Peace River North) and SD63 (Saanich).
Board Chair Tim Bennett and company will convene at the SD57 office on Ferry Avenue tonight, starting at 7PM.
