Prince George designed "Catch the Spirit" lesson plan launched

This morning teachers from School District 57 unveiled a new lesson plan for students that will educate them about the Canada Winter Games.

“Catch the Spirit” is a set of 5 lessons designed for student’s kindergarten to grade 7 based on 5 overarching themes;

• Unifying Canada
• Healthy Living and Sport
• Official Languages
• Arts and Culture
• Goals and Leadership

Heather Park Elementary Principal Kelly Johanson was one of the leads on the project. She says teachers will be able to fit the lessons into the shortened school year;

“We didn’t want it to be an extra add on, just another thing for teachers to potentially do in the class. The intention was that this resource would be nicely woven into the curriculum so it’s simply a resource that can support the curriculum already in place”

The plan was designed by a committee in Prince George but will be sent out to teachers across the country over the coming weeks.
