A job partnership between the Lake Babine Nation and province is underway thanks to $110,000 in funding.
The 47 week partnership focuses on building experience in wood working and forestry training. MLA John Rustad it is all to help the Nation reach long term goals of building a biomass energy plant for the community;
“The long term goal of the nation is to try to provide a biomass heat source for their homes on the reserves. So a lot of this work experience will go towards those people being able to be involved in that project down the road.”
Eight workers will get experience building two timber bridges and 66 firewood storage units for band members. Additionally, they will be learning about safety practices and how to operate heavy equipment used in forestry.
Rustad says this is one of many such partnerships the province has lined up for communities around the province for both aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities.
