Prince George wildfire update

An air quality advisory is in effect for the Prince George area mainly due to fires burning in the region.

The biggest contributor is the Shovel Lake fire 25-kilometres Northwest of Fraser Lake, last recorded at 5,100 hectares in size.

In the Prince George Fire Centre there are three wildfires of note:

-Purvis Lake, 20-kilometres east of Takla Lake at 1,100 hectares in size.

-Chutanli Lake, 11-kilometres northeast of Tatelkuz Lake recorded at 870 hectares.

-McKirby Mountain located two-kilometers east of Valemount estimated at 35 hectares.

Evacuation alerts are in place for both Purvis and Chulatin Lake.

In case of an evacuation order, residents should prepare themselves with an emergency kit with medicine and prescriptions along with personal papers such as birth certificates.

In the coming week, Out-of-province firefighting personnel and aircraft will be arriving in B.C. to help battle 446 wildfires burning throughout the province.

This personnel will join the over 2,200 people currently responding to the wildfires.
