The Prince George RCMP is warning the public about a telephone scam where people are claiming to be firefighters raising money.
On Wednesday, officers were contacted by a representative from the PG Fire Fighters saying they’ve received reports from the public of fraudsters posing as them and asking for donations for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
The fire service does raise money for the cause but during the second week of September and only at public locations.
The fire association never fundraises by phone and won’t call members of the public for donations for any charities.
If this does happen or you may suspect you are being a target of fraud to hang-up and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
