Advocates in countries across the world are declaring today world pancreatic cancer awareness day.
Pancreatic cancer is the most lethal form of the disease with a single digit survival rating, yet it receives just 2% of cancer research funding.
Pancreatic Cancer Canada spokesperson and survivor Libby Znaimer says it’s underfunded because nobody lives to advocate for it;
“Part of the reason is because there are so few survivors to tell the tale. If you ask most people they don’t know anyone who has survived pancreatic cancer”
It is expected to be the second largest cause of cancer death by 2020. Buildings across the country have been lit purple today and this month in support and you can spread awareness this Christmas with purple lights.
Patrick Swayze and Steve Jobs are just two of the 905 that die a day worldwide as a result of the disease.
