A candidate who recently sought nomination to run for MP in the Prince George – Cariboo riding now has his eye on a less-crowded race to the West.
Vanderhoof native Gerald Caron says the number of candidates for the Federal Conservative nomination here is too crowded, while there was not a single candidate for the Conservative party in Skeena – Bulkley Valley.
“It got me to thinking, maybe it would be a better or wiser choice to go over there, I might as well focus Westward,” he says.
Caron says the coverage and attention of the nomination process for the MP seat centred too much on Prince George and didn’t include his home of Vanderhoof enough. “The only people that were talked about in the race were the Prince George people, it’s like Vanderhoof didn’t exist,” he says.
Caron admits beating the current Skeena – Bulkley Valley MP New Democrat Nathan Cullen would be a challenge, though he looks to his own kids who have left the area to find work elsewhere, as an inspiration to challenge Cullen for his seat.
“He’s a nice person, let’s face it, okay?” Carson adds. “He’s a nice guy and people like him. You know, it’s great, to say I live in a beautiful place, but when people are leaving the beautiful place … is it so beautiful?”
That leaves four Conservative candidates in the race to replace Dick Harris for Prince George – Cariboo.
