Hundreds of residents braved the weather to take part in the 26th annual Relay for Life in Prince George.
The event kicked off by thanking everyone for donating and by honoring those who are battle cancer with a Survivors Lap.
Survivor Eva Patten was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer then was told she formed another rare disease called amyloidosis where the doctor only gave her six months to live.
“When I was diagnosed 10 years ago for the type of cancer I had there wasn’t a single protocol out there they could use. They had to get special approval and it was all trial drugs and hoping they would work because they had nothing to go on.”
“When you’re diagnosed and told you are probably not going to live past six-months but then they find something that keeps you going for five-years. To me what is the definition of cure, to me it’s prolonging your life and being able to still be here to enjoy family and grandkids and things you didn’t think you were going to get to enjoy.”
Eva was one of many at the event sporting a yellow shirt that represented a survivor.
Relay for Life in PG has been number one for four years in a row and raised over $500,000 last year with the organization hoping to break that this year.
