The University of Northern BC is trying to make life easier for Youth in government care.
They have recently released a full tuition waiver which will see the cost of an undergraduate degree or certificate be covered.
Professor of Social work Glen Schmidt talked about the difficulties youth in the care of the government face:
“One of the difficulties is, if you’re a child that isn’t in care you can rely on your parents in most instances to provide support for you and so forth. But if your parent is the Provincial Government at age 19, you’re essentially on your own”
Prospective students must be residents of British Columbia and currently live, or have lived in youth care. Along with any admission requirements for their specific program.
