Gender equality in film and television took the stage at FanCon today.

Four panelist from the industry discussed the importance of standing up for yourself as a women in the work place, and offered some solutions for those who may feel they are struggling to have their voice heard.

“We as ladies have to get out of being overly emotional at work and sometimes I feel like the men also have to not treat us always like an emotional being and just look at it as just businesses.”

Swanson wants people to understand its okay for men and women to be different because that’s what makes us special, but one isn’t greater than the other.

Jennifer Lewis, sound designer for The Doctor’s Case and the Need for Speed movie, echoed Swansons remarks and added that people should focus more on personalities opposed to gender.

“There’s this balance to be had and understanding of everybody’s personalities, not just male and female, but all the personalities and look at it like that. We are all characters we are all human who have our foibles and our greatness and that’s what we should be focusing on.”

Lewis says as a solution, people should focus on themselves and understand how they are being perceived and stand up for oneself when needed.
