Meet UNBC’s Northern Medical Programs Class of 2018

Long white coats and singles have been distributed to 31 graduating students of the Northern Medical Program at UNBC.

After spending four years at the university the graduates will now move into two or seven years of medical residency and training.

Prince George native Ross Williams is one of 14 Northern BC graduates and is doing his residency in the Northern Capital, something he’s excited about.

“I’m really thrilled I get to stay here. There are so many good preceptors and physicians to work with along with being close to home and family supports. It’s definitely worth wild.”

After four-years Williams says he’s relieved to be graduating.

“It was very challenging mentally with long hours and was a pretty tough program. In our fourth year there is lots of travelling around. than I had to go through a process called CaRMS where you apply for residency, but I made it here and it feels good.”

Williams is one of six Prince George students who are graduating, was given the Tony Eckersley Memorial Award for matching to a residency position in family medicine.

The Northern Medical Program has put through over 100 physicians who are working in Northern BC.
