Annual Day of Mourning taking place in PG this weekend

Prince George will host the annual Day of Mourning this Saturday at the Memorial Statue downtown.

April 28th, commemorates workers who have been seriously injured or died as a result of their job.

More than 37 ceremonies throughout the province will take place, as family survivors will be joined along side workers, employees, local labour councils and WorkSafeBC.

Presenters at this years event will be Mayor Lyn Hall, Don Iwaskow of North Central Labour Council and Barry Nakahara, manager of Prevention Field Services, WorkSafeBC.

In 2017, there were 158 work-related death claims in BC, 87 primarily caused from exposure to asbestos decades ago.

In Fraser-Fort George, two work related claims were accepted in 2017.
