The Prince George community raised over $26,000 in support of the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Pink Shirt Campaign.
On February 28th, citizens wore pink to stand up against bullying, and over $7,000 in shirts was purchased through Save on Foods in PG.
“Pink Shirt Day is a big day for our agency, but this year we want to continue to spread the message throughout the year,” says Darbi Brand, Community Development Manager. Adding, “We need to encourage people to spread kindness each and every day. By doing so we can reduce bullying, and in turn strengthen our community.”
A study done by BBBS Canada showed 62 per cent of those bullied believe they would have benefited from having a mentor to help them cope.
All the money raised will go towards the organization to match children and youth living in Prince George with a mentor.
A cheque presentation will be held in the Spruceland Mall Save on Foods at 11am on Tuesday.
