SD57 has carried a motion to approve a recommendation that will see the annual remuneration increase.
This is usually done before the next election, which is taking place this year in October.
The board decided to do this a second time this year because the government of Canada announced it would tax the total annual salary effective January 1st, 2019.

“The board felt that, for the next board, they be protected in some way so that the taxable income they have doesn’t take away from the money they would need to run their own office, or too manage the work they do for the district,” says Sharel Warrington, Trustee.
The changes will see Chairperson make $21,200, Vice-chair $19,700, and Trustees $18,200.
The board felt it was appropriate to built into the new tax so new members aren’t paying out of pocket.
What this essentially means is, once the changes take place, the net remuneration will be the same January 1st, 2019 as it is December 31st of 2018.
