Mayors talk with Transportation Minister about Greyhound

Mayors across the north met with the Provincial Transportation Minister Claire Trevena to see what can be done now that Greyhound is making its exit.

Mayor Lyn Hall says they left no stone unturned when it came to potential transit options.

“We talked about the BC transit operation on Highway 16, which many municipalities are involved in when it comes to funding. We talked about how that, if all possible, can be expanded and whether or not there would be an opportunity to for government to cover cost.”

He added they talked about short haul units, which could see a private operator come in and create a route between PG to Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.

For the Prince George economy to proposer there needs to be a sufficient replacement.

“When we talk about economic development, we talk about the fact that our geographical location is key and that we have Highway 16 and 97 intersected. We have number of transportation opportunity that make us very viable from a economic development perspective.”

Greyhound announced it was pulling the plug on its operations in certain areas in the north starting in June.
