First it’s snow then it’s potholes for City crews

Spring is slowly creeping closer and the snow melt is revealing potholes on local roads.

This is peak season because the melting of the snow creates erosions in the asphalt, making new or bigger holes on streets.

The City is asking residents to contact them through the City Service Centre if they can identify the location of potholes so they can go and patch them up.

“We are out patching on a daily basis,” says Mick Jones, Supervisor of Street Operations. “We try to patch on, at least, two shifts a day whether it be day or night just to stay away from higher traffic areas during peak times.”

The city’s main focus will be on major roads throughout the city.

“If we have a pothole on 5th or 15th avenue, we usually hear about that more compared to areas with lower speed and lower volume. That’s our focus, to reach the areas with the potential to cause vehicle damage.”

The City is hoping to tackle potholes with a new tool called the Bagela Asphalt Recycler, to help ensure longer-lasting patches.

You can report a pothole by calling 250-561-7600 or by visiting the City website.
