Kids of all ages gathered Sunday at the Prince George Ice Oval for the first ever Oval “Olympic” Skate and Snowball Biathlon.
Kids were divided into age groups before heading to the starting line.
There they raced around the oval and threw premade snowballs at targets, then finally crossing the finish line.
“For our first ever try here it’s looking like it’s good,” says PG Ice Oval Chief Ice Make Lyle Dickieson.
“I think we have some people in every category…The more the merrier!”
The just-for-fun competition saw a couple things line up, which Dickieson said made for a perfect time to host the event.
“The Olympics and then also we put in a little miniature oval in the middle to help people learn how to turn corners and the little kids just love it,” he explains.
“They skate there all the time and I thought how can we incorporate this into an event so it just seemed like a perfect thing for a penalty lap.”
Everyone who competed in the event earned a participation medal.
