An Independent Advisory Committee to look at councillors wages

The city approved recommendations they start establishing an Advisory Committee on councils payroll and benefits.

An independent review of councils wages will be conducted in the coming months to make any adjustments on whether they should increase, or decrease, the amount they make.

The city is planning to have this done before the election coming up in October, so if a new council is voted in they don’t have to adjust their own salaries.

Garth Frizzell

Councillor Garth Frizzell says this is an interesting approach, because people come in and recommend them what to do.

“In the past we’ve had recommendations that council raise their salary and we’ve said no we are not going to do that. So, they’ll come in, give their presentation, and there will be pressures to do this or that, but the important thing at the end of the day it gets done.”

He added this is important to have this in full view of the public, before voting, so everyone can have a choice.

Recommendation aren’t expected to be presented until April.

The next general election will be held in October.
