City approves bid to host 2019 NCLGA convention

It was a unanimous decision for Prince George city council to approve the submission of a bid to host a North Central Local Government Association event in 2019.

The annual general meeting and convention is set up by NCLGA to bring together elected officials of the 41 communities it represents to discuss and identify any issues and figure out solutions.

“It helps our community grow and prosper. Hotels and restaurants and purchasing things within our stores and also gives a gathering point for the folks to come here and to make decisions to go to [the Union of British Columbia Municipalities] to put forward our position on a provincial basis,” explains Councillor Frank Everitt, who had nothing bad to say about the idea of hosting next year’s convention.

This is just another of the seemingly many events the city is looking to have a bigger role in, especially in recent memory when factoring in the city’s hosting of the British Columbia Natural Resources Forum and the city’s bid to host the 2020 Brier.

“All of it contributes to our economy within the city and helps businesses prosper and when businesses prosper they grow and they bring more employment for people so all of those things are good for our community,” Everitt says.

Prince George last hosted the NCLGA general meeting and convention in 2015.
