The newest branch of the Boys Club Network has launched in Prince George, by the Aboriginal Education System.
The Boys Club Network works to provide help, support, and mentorship for young men to allow them to find their way, find themselves, and finish school.
One person who is all for the new program in PG, is School District 57 Chair, Tim Bennett.
“Such a valuable program to come to our community,” he says.
“Not only as board chair but with my other hat on as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, the power of mentorship is just something that you can’t put a cost on.”
He goes on to explain the importance the program has when looking at the graduation rates as well.
“As a district, when we’re looking at increasing Aboriginal graduation rates, not only the provincial average but to have it on par with non-Aboriginal graduation rates, studies show that when you provide youth with a mentor they are more likely to graduate high school.”
The program was launched January 28th.
