Bringing Back Student Career Services Centre Could Benefit CNC

The College of New Caledonia is looking to bring back its Student Career Service Centre to help with students success.

That was brought up at the public consultation held tonight(Wednesday) on what the school should be spending its 2018-2019 budget on.

Instructor Jacob Madjitey was the one who presented the importance of having this services, saying this program would be an investment.

“Don’t look at everything as just spending money, but actually investing money. These kind of career services centres for students and alumni are investments you make now in they yield dividends for decades.”

CNC is one of just a few colleges in BC without a Student Career services Centre. It had one in previous years, but due to cost they had to stop the program.

The outline of the cost to bring back the program is still uncertain at this point, but as it stands they would need to hire two full-time employees, pay them the base salary with benefits, ranging to over $100,000.

This would be within the schools budget and best interest to bring this program back stated Madjitey.

“The amount is such that it still could fit into the budget. There is some discretionary spending that the college has and I think this could be one significant or important use of that type of money.”

President Henry Reiser commented on the centre, saying he sees value in having the program and will have to do an estimate on if the college can afford it.
