Ice on the Nechako River has been responsible for a localized flooding effecting four homes on Morning Place in Prince George.
Fire Rescue Services and Public Works responded to The incident on Monday around 10am and quickly went to work in assisting residents.
City crews have installed sandbags and pumps, and river levels appear to be declining.
The high levels of water has also affected some septic systems to homes in the area.
Fire Chief John Iverson says with the temperature beginning to drop it should help the situation.
“The cold weather will likely stabilize the river a little bit at this point, beyond that I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. For fire rescue we are really just focusing on doing what we can do to assist with preventative measures.”
Councillor Jillian Merrick spoke about the flooding at last nights council meeting and says this was bound to happen at some point.
“We flood all the time. Prince George is a city where floods are regular occurrence. Our staff are monitoring constantly to see if things will change and they have preparedness plans in action if the water levels continue to change.”
City crews continue to monitor the levels of the Nechako River through to the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers.
No homeowners have been evacuated due to the high water levels.
