Worksafe warned Pinnacle about Burns Lake explosion

(Written by Marisca Bakker with Jonathon Brown)

Two out of the three people sent to hospital after yesterday’s fire at a Burns Lake mill have been released.

Pinnacle president Leroy Reitsma says the two workers that were sent to Prince George were released last night and the one that was flown to Vancouver is doing much better.

“The main reason was that they were worried about if there was an inhalation-related injury, in terms of heat inhalation ,” he says. “But when they did testing there, they did find that was not the case and they’re expecting him to remain in care for a couple of days and then be released as well.”

He adds there was no damage to any equipment.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown but WorksafeBC is at the site investigating.

However, Worksafe reported back in May that they fined Pinnacle over $48,000 for excessive wood dust at the Burns Lake plant saying it could cause an explosion.
