The total funds raised by the Salvation Army‘s Christmas Kettle Campaign as of December 14th is $148,593.
This is $10,750 off last year’s total at the same point; and $101,407 off the goal for the entire drive.
Having over $100,000 to go in the last week isn’t something the group is overly concerned, however.
“It’s something that we’ve certainly seen and there’s a little bit of a tongue and cheek joke that goes around that Prince George is a last-minute community,” says Captain Neil Wilkinson.
“We certainly have observed that historically as well.”
Heading into the last week, volunteer hours was an issue.
Wilkinson says the city stepped up.
“[The hours] are getting filled in nicely, this community has such a big heart; we were looking at a deficit of 180 man hours that we were behind for our last week of kettles,” Wilkinson says.
“Now we’re only about 60 man hours behind.”
The total goal for the drive is $250,000.
It ends December 23rd.
