CNC Grad Places Second In National Contest

A graduate of the College of New Caledonia has been awarded $500 for his report on western larch trees.

Alex Tranq surveyed the plant at year 19, compared it to pine trees to see how well they’re growing, and compiled the results into a report.

He ended up taking second place in CTABS 2017 Applied Research and Technology Report Contest.

Tranq says it feels great to have been awarded.

“I didn’t really think I had a chance at it. because it’s a national competition. But it feels good to just be recognized for something I put a lot of time into. It also doesn’t hurt it’s 500 bucks as well.”

Over 100 reports were nominated throughout the nation and only three were selected as winners.

Tranq said he’s going to spend the money on a new pair of boots and get some Christmas shopping done.
