A meeting of the minds was held this weekend at the Hubspace in Prince George for this year’s startup weekend.
Startup Weekend is a way for like-minded individuals who otherwise may not be able to team up, a chance to work together to create new, innovative, and community-grown ideas.
“It really builds the skills in this community and facilitates the relationships for different groups of people to collaborate with each other,” explains organizer Lakeysha O’Neill.
“There aren’t a lot of opportunities for doctors to get together with designers and developers.”
For the first time in North America, startup teamed with Hacking Health, a group of volunteers from Northern Health and the University of Northern BC, to tackle health and medical-based projects.
“We’re very excited about the addition of Hacking Health this year, says Innovation Central Executive Director, Matt Hutcheon.
“Prince George is a key health and medical community, and we are very eager to see how this event can help unleash new innovations related to healthcare.”
Participants attended an opening session on Friday, worked through the weekend on their ideas and ultimately make pitches their idea to a panel of judges.
The team with the winning idea receives services to help them continue to develop and launch their project.
