The BC Cancer Centre for the North is celebrating five years of patient care.
Over the last couple of years the centre has become an important place in the northern community for patients, families, scientist and students.
Yolanda Antonio has had more than 130 cancer treatments and says after so many years she received something special from staff.
“The doctors and nurses gave me this little celebration of 100 Chemo treatments and now it has become 130.”
Yolanda also adds that she has been very satisfied with the service that’s been provided.
“It is wonderful to see all these doctors and nurses, being with them that whole environment it’s very inspirational for me.”
The care centre has also been known to go above and beyond, with it being situated on the territory of 54 First Nations, it’s helped Indigenous communities have accessible care closer to home.
Centre for the North opened its doors November 1, 2012, and now has more than 120 staff and 55 volunteers.
The cancer centre provide services including gynecologic brachytherapy, 3D printing for customized radiotherapy accessories, novel imaging techniques, speech language pathology, a nutrition program and clinical trials.
