Graduate of Northern Medical Program returns to Prince George as a specialist

For the first time, a graduate of the Northern Medical Program is returning to Prince George as a specialist.

Dr Abdulla, a urologist, says it was the tight knit medical community in Prince George that drew him back

“That’s something important for a physician, to go into a group where they work well together, because even though you are an independent surgeon, you do work as a part of a group of physicians”

With the northern medical program is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, UNBC Associate of Medicine Dr Paul Winwood thinks Dr Abulla will be the first of many specialists to return now that the building blocks are in place;

“I hope and anticipate this will be the first of many. Obviously it depends on the availability of positions and facilities for them, but I think we are going to see more and more coming back to the north”

A specialist requires 9 to 12 years of schooling.

Dr Abulla will open his practice to patients in October.
