A program that’s been running for 38 years may not go through as planned.
The annual District 57 Singfest is short on the amount of teachers teaching on call(TTOC) and as a result could end up being cancelled, affecting around 900 students.
SD57’s Tim Bennett says this is an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed.
“TTOC is an issue the board is taking as a priority. We need to ensure we have qualified teachers here in the school district. We had an opportunity to talk about recruitment of professionals to the Minister of Education two weeks ago.”
Bennett adds he did choir K-12 and participated as an audience member at Singfest and understands the importance of the event to teachers, parents, and students.
If there is no guarantee of more TTOC’s being made available by November 30th, Singfest will have to be cancelled.
