The Fire Hall #1 and Four Seasons Leisure Pool referendum is completed and preliminary numbers show the majority voted in favour of both initiatives.
Preliminary numbers show 82.76% voting in favour for a new fire hall.
“The people in Prince George looked at the information they had in front of them and were very supportive,” says Fire Chief John Iverson.
“It will allow us to look at building on an already really good dispatch centre”
The location, Iverson says, is one factor he says will help his crew improve.
“The location of the fire hall was good when it was built, but the new location is terrific.
“It’s increased the coverage for our response time tremendously.”
The leisure pool did not garner as much positivity in terms of votes but held steady with prelim numbers showing 62.46% in favour.
Mayor Lyn Hall says he’s very pleased with how the whole referendum process went.
“We were very specific about the message we wanted to take out to the residents,” explains Hall.
“We had about 12 public sessions, we had videos that were run, and the reason behind that was to provide information to residents so they could determine how they were going to vote.”
The official results will be in on Monday, October 30th.
