Wild salmon numbers nearing all time low in the region

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans will be holding an open house in Prince George next month.

It will outline a wild salmon policy implementation plan for the area.

The new policy will include how to increase the population of the fish, keep them safe, and ensure sustainability.

“The salmon is his region are in great decline,” says Dustin Snyder, Vice-President of the Spruce City Wildlife Association. “The numbers this year are in many cases lower than they’ve ever been.”

Snyder says this is the second open house on the subject, the last one took place last year.

He is hoping to see more people come to the open house this time around.

“We’re hoping we can get as many people there as possible to give as much feedback as we can.”

The open house is on November 1st, and will be at the Prince George Coast Inn.

A Facebook group has been made for the event, which is available here.
