Thanksgiving long weekend driving tips

Every year, there is an average of 2,000 crashes during Thanksgiving long weekend.

As a result, there are about 600 injuries.

In the North, these numbers are closer to 140 crashes and 18 injuries annually.

ICBC is offering tips to drivers who may be on the road this weekend, on how to make sure they arrive safe and sound.

“The first being the most important, just plan ahead,’ says ICBC Spokesperson Joanna Linsangan. “It could be nice and sunny when you leave the house but you could be driving into a torrential downpour or a snowy pass.”

Other tips include making sure you have on your winter tires, slowing down on wet roads, checking your tires to avoid hydroplaning, and to watch for pedestrians.
