Raise a Reader Day is here

Raise a Reader day is running tomorrow so make sure you set aside a couple dollars to help support literacy in Prince George.

Although it’s a national fundraiser, PG Library spokesperson Andrea Palmer says all the money raised in PG will help Prince George.

“Every penny raised on raise a reader day goes to support children’s literacy projects and initiatives. So although it’s a nationwide event, we actually keep all the money we raise to redistribute back into the community.”

Palmer says the volunteers will be easy to spot;

“We’ve got volunteers in their signature bright hazard orange t-shirts, they’ll be out 7 – 9am at basically every Tim Hortons in the city… as well as McDonald’s drive thrus and Starbucks. We’ve got teams up at CNC and UNBC. If you get coffee in the morning, you are going to see our volunteers.”

The Prince George Spruce Kings will be out amongst the volunteers. After raising nearly $40,000 last year after matching government grants, they have a high bar to reach.
