A Prince George studio is opening up its spaces for two local aspiring artists.
In conjunction with BC Culture Days, Studio 2880 and the Prince George Community Arts Council (PGCAC) has introduced Lynette La Fontaine and Michael Kast into the Artist-In-Residence program.

La Fontaine is of Metis descent, which she says is a key element to her projects.
“I want to combine my painting and beat-work. I’m trying out a whole new way of doing things for myself, so I could bring in my traditions, but contemporizing it and putting my own spin on it. I also want to do traditional cases that require a lot of time.”
Kast has lived in several North American cities as a professional photographer before moving to Northern BC.
“For years, photography has always had to fight to be considered art. When I started 30 years ago, it was more just a tool as opposed to an art form, and now the digital age, we have to go even further.”

The PGCAC hopes both artists can collaborate over the next year to showcase local art in a variety of forms.
La Fontaine says is looking forward to meeting the challenges ahead.
“I wanted to give back to the community. I knew that this would be an opportunity for me to collaborate and network in ways that would normally take me many years, so in one year, I could accomplish a lot of that.”
Specializing in digital imaging, Kast hopes the public will gain a better appreciation for the new media.
“I want to invoke emotion and a discourse about whatever it is that they see in that image. They can talk amongst themselves, but just generate conversation and a discourse on whatever it is they see in those images.”
The Artist-In-Residence program is entering its fifth year, which includes mentorship support, a 30-day featured gallery, and a no-cost price tag to using the spaces.
