Prince George is now playing host to more than 8,300 wildfire evacuees, more than half of whom are staying with residents.
CNC and the Northern Sport Centre are hosting about 700 people, while slightly fewer than 900 are staying in RVs.
The City has provided more than $1 million in grocery vouchers so far. Emergency Management BC is supporting the voucher program, which is being administered through the Emergency Reception Centre at CNC. The vouchers provide evacuees with $22.50 per person per day.
Mayor Lyn Hall says the flood of people who began arriving in the City last week has begun to dry up
“We’re just seeing dribs and drabs of folks coming in now. It’s quieted down considerably. If folks want to come up from Kamloops that live in Williams Lake then they’ll wander up here and that’s great. We’re still welcoming anybody who shows up but we’re seeing a decline in people registering. In some respects, that’s a good thing.”
The City has added laundry services to their list of evacuee supports. Those without access to laundry can now get a voucher for a free wash and dry cycle per person per week with Spotless Drycleaner + Laundromats. Laundry bags are also available
A fourth town hall is taking place tonight at 5pm at UNBC’s Canfor Theatre. It will be simulcast to CNC and the Northern Sport Centre. It will be livestreamed here. You can view previous town halls here.
