Housing starts in Prince George sagging

Canada’s housing agency has released its August numbers and housing starts across the province are up over last month and last year.

But Prince George numbers have seen a small dip with 78 starts so far this year compared to 130 at this point in 2013.

Carol Frketich with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says while the single family numbers have stayed level, PG has seen a sharp drop in multi family starts compared to last year.

“The difference compared to last year is coming on the multi family side.” Said Carol “So far this year Prince George has recorded 7 multifamily starts compared to 59 is the first 8 months of 2013.”

PG had 9 new housing starts in the month of August compared to 12 in August 2013.
