Despite a morning chill, Environment Canada says summer's not over yet

Temperatures around 2 degrees made for a bitter morning in Prince George.

It was worse elsewhere in the province, with Fort Saint John seeing 14 centimetres of snow at higher elevations according to Environment Canada, but Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says this is pretty average for this time of year.

“We have snowfall sometimes as early as August, especially over high terrain, so it’s just a blip,” he says. “Here in the Central Interior, we’re actually lucky because there’s a lot of warmth coming in from the Pacific and the really cold air really only made it into the Peace. Even for them, it’s not that unusual to get snow this time of year.”

Lundquist says summer is not lost yet, with highs for the weekend forecast at around 22 degrees.
